With a history of over 1,300 years, Fushimi Inari Taisha, is the main shrine of Inari shrines nationwide. Also known for its attractive Senbon Torii gates, the shrine is said to bring business prosperity, good harvests, household safety, healing from all illnesses, and traffic safety. In this program, a Shinto priest shows you around areas that are normally closed to the public, and you can also experience praying at the main shrine and making Kagura offerings.

In areas normally closed to the public, you can tour the Hoshuken tea room named and handwritten in calligraphy by Sen Soshitsu, the 16th head of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony, and Seicho no Ma hall that displays a hanging scroll by Munakata Shiko, a printmaker who achieved the international print award at the 28th Venice Biennale and other acclaim worldwide. You can also see a garden that depicts the waterscape from the age of the gods, as well as works by Yumemakura Baku, Amano Yoshitaka, and "The Playing Fox Princess" by Kano Shokoku. *Works are subject to change.
Step further inside from the approach to the shrine visited by many worshipers from around the world to enjoy a quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. After the tour, pray for your wishes to come true by paying respects at the main shrine and viewing kagura (entertaining the gods with music and dance) at the seats set up in the Kagura Hall. Please note that applying for this tour of non-public areas is currently only offered at The Thousand Kyoto.

Fushimi Inari Taisha is the main shrine of the approximately 30,000 Oinari-san shrines nationwide, enshrining Inari Okami, enshrined on Mt. Inari in 711 during the Nara period. Celebrating 1,300 years in 2011, the shrine is known to bring business prosperity, good harvest, safety of households, and the fulfillment of various wishes. The shrine attracts visitors from worldwide as a Japanese cultural spot as its premises are also home to the Senbon Torii, the tunnel-like row of torii gates dedicated by people as a sign of worship and gratitude, statues of foxes which serve as messengers to Inari Okami, and the shrine building designated as an important cultural property.
